How to make a Haunted House
Making a haunted house that the neighbors talk about for months will take some work but it is also very fun and rewarding, especially if you like to create. This article will help you make a haunted house for Halloween.

First. Location.
Pick an area with enough space to create at least four rooms of horror. If you are building your own, use sturdy materials, as people who get scared bump into things. Also be careful to trim sharp edges. A basement is a very good choice but the first floor of a house works well too. Use furniture and cardboard boxes to create a maze for people to walk through. Don’t forget the flashing lights and haunted sounds.
Second. The route.
Map out the route on paper that you want your guests to take and then build your maze around that plan. Stacks of boxes taped together make good walls and doors, as do curtains and blankets. After building, walk the route yourself and imagine it dark, with scary things making you jump. Would you go the way that it marked? Adjust it as needed.

Third. Entertainment.
Each room should have one main attraction, with at least three little attractions. There should also be two ‘scares’ per room. The best way to do this is to use a decoy. The first thing a person sees should be the decoy that does not scare them. It is the one they thought was boring that should get them to yell and jump. This is a big part of learning how to make a haunted house for Halloween. If your guests do not have a good time, the party will not be a success.
Fourth. Props.
Don’t use cheesy or cheap props. The more realistic the props, the better the effect but avoid being too gory. Let the imagination do the work for you. You can buy these online at good prices or make your own from paint and paper machete.
Fifth. Line and outside fun.
While waiting their turn to enter your house of horror, guests need to be entertained with contests, games, and scares. Have people dressed to scare and moving through the crowd. Hold best costume and movie trivia contests every hour. Keep them having fun and they will be talking about it for a long time afterward.

Sixth. Food and drinks.
No Halloween celebration is complete without theme related snacks. Eyeball cookies and severed finger cupcakes are always a hit, as are bubbling punch and troll gruel. This is made with oatmeal and green food coloring gel.
Seventh. Bring in people.
Make your haunted house free and advertise it for weeks before the day. Post signs on store and work billboards, on poles, and of course, tell people. They won’t come if they don’t know you’ve built it.
